Platak is a family ski resort close to Rijeka with numerous recreational facilities, both in winter and summer. The only ski resort in Croatia where you can enjoy the sea view from the top of the chairlift (1,361 m)! Built in the middle of last century, Platak soon became very popular. At the Platak ski resort, the Adriatic slope was born, the only race where skiers start looking at the entire Kvarner Bay. The Adriatic slope was held for the first time in 1933, and the premiere edition of this competition was won by Zvonimir Kajb from SuÅ¡ak. It is interesting to note that Alpine skiing became an Olympic sport only three years later in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The skiers who will later mark Croatias skiing history are on Platak, and the most striking name is probably Ante Kostelic, the creator of the Croatian wonders, who won the 4th place in the Adriatic Slalom in 1969. On the 1st of April 2006, RadeÅ¡eva got the worlds top ski stars - Ivica and Janica Kostelić. This year the first regenerated International Jadranski slalom took place, and the RijeÄani finally welcomed the chance to see the right skiing competition on their hill.
